MCI increases PG seats at SKIMS Medical Colleges

Srinagar: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has increased the number of Post Graduate seats for SKIMS Colleges.

The MCI vide its letter dated 28-03-2017 has ordered that the total PG seats in SKIMS colleges should be 42.

These seats are in addition to the 28 seats already increased for GMC Srinagar.

According to the letter, SKIMS Soura and SKIMS Medical College has got 20 more seats in OBG, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia and Radio diagnosis while GMC Srinagar has got 9 more seats and GMC Jammu has got 13 more seats.

The letter reveals that in SKIMS Soura and its Medical College, the total number of existing seats for MD (Aneasthesia) was 14 while seats available now are 20. The six seats were enhanced by the MCI.

It further reveals that total number of existing seats for MD (Radio diagnosis) was 7 while the seats available now are 16. The total of 09 seats was enhanced by the MCI.

“The total number of existing seats for MS (Orthopedics) was 02 while the seats available now are 5. The total of 03 seats was enhanced by the MCI,” the letter reveals, adding that the total number of existing seats for MS (Ophthalmology) was 05 while the seats available now are 06 and 01 seat was enhanced by the MCI.

The letter reads that total number of existing seats for MS (Obst & Gynae) was 02 while the seats available now are 03 and one seat has been enchased by the MCI.

Meanwhile, in GMC Srinagar the total number of seats existing for MD (Peaditrics) was 08 while the 13 seats are available now and the 05 seats were enhanced by MCI today.

The letter further reads that the total number of seats existing for MS (Surgery) was 13 while the 17 seats are available now and the 04 seats were enhanced by MCI today.

The letters further stated that for GMC Jammu the total of 13 seats were enhanced by MCI today including 02 for MD (DVL), 02 for MD (Pediatrics), 03 for MS (Surgery), 03 for MS (ENT), 03 for MS (OBG).

Therefore, the total enhancement of PG seats by MCI this year to the tune of over increase of 70 seats in one go is welcomed by all PG aspirants in Particular and Medicos in General. “It will definitely boost the Medical care of specialties,” they said.

The enhancement has brought a sigh of relief and jubilation on the faces of the PG aspirants was worth noting.

The group reported to the office of Prof Reyaz Untoo and appreciated his efforts.

The PG aspirants said that the Principal SKIMS Medical College Bemina seriously perused the case personally and also deputed the Registrar Academics, Dr Qayoom to Delhi to resubmit the proposal for enhancement of the PG Seats in SKIMS Soura and SKIMS Medical College Bemina who camped there for many days.

Meanwhile, the officials said that though the proposal had been sent earlier but due to some reasons the PG enhancement came only for GMC Srinagar and not for SKIMS and GMC Jammu.

“We approached the higher authorities and issue was brought to media as well to draw attention towards the issue,” the statement issued to KNS reads. (KNS)
