Snow Art Contest 2017: All you need to know before Applying!

Srinagar: The department of education in Jammu and Kashmir has come up with an interesting activity for school students – Snow Art Contest.

With the abundant snow fall happening in the state since last week, making snow craft is an art that many of those citizens would have now by hearted. To those of them who can get creative with the snow, the J&K government has announced rewards.

“We want to see the creative side of the students. There are many students who are extremely good at making things out of snow, which is available in abundance. So we want to encourage the students,” said Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, director of School Education Department, Kashmir.

A statement from the education department says, “All snow art works created after January 6, 2017, the day of first major snowfall of this season, shall be eligible for the contest,” adding that the competition shall be at different levels in the entire winter zone of the state, including higher secondary level, district level and finally at the state level, with prizes to be awarded to the winners at each of these stages.

SNOW SCULPTURE

The maiden snowfall this winter has turned the winter zones of J&K into a white canvass that has prompted the creativity of its dwellers and a lot of artistry has unfolded in the form of snow sculptures. The department of School Education has found it an apt occasion to felicitate the creativity among the students and to capture this festivity and as such announcing a Snow Sculpture / Snow Art Competition-2017.

PROCEDURE

In order to participate in this competition, the Snowman / Snow Sculpture / other Snow Art has to be made and 2-3 good quality photographs of the final artwork, from different angles are to be clicked. At least one photograph as ID-Photo should be where the participant is also seen in the photograph along with the Sculpture / Artwork. Also, it is necessary that a few photographs or videos filmed during the process are attached so as to capture the process of creation. Video / pictures related to the fun activities associated with the snow-art can also be submitted. In addition, a brief write up on the concept and any other relevant aspect, not exceeding 100 words, shall be given.

Each participant / team can send the Entry to the department by email at innovationdsek@gmail.com or otherwise to the Cultural Coordinators of the respective offices of the Chief Education Officers with Name, Residence, Phone No. Email ID, Theme, etc. The entries will be judged on the basis of concept, design, creativity, originality, social message etc.

PRIZES

The contest will be open to two categories of students, viz.; Age Group of 7-18 years & Age Group of 19 to 25 years. In each category, prizes shall be awarded, as follows:

Cluster Level:

1st Prize: Rs. 1500/-

2nd Prize: Rs. 800/-

3rd Prize: Rs. 500/-

District Level:

1st Prize: Rs. 5000/-

2nd Prize: Rs. 3000/-

3rd Prize: 2000/-

State Level:

1st Prize: Rs. 1,00,000/-

2nd Prize: Rs. 30,000/-

3rd Prize: Rs. 20,000/-

General Instructions

All Art works created after 6th January, 2017 shall be eligible.The competition shall be at different levels in the entire Winter Zone of the State – HSS Cluster level, District level and at the State level, with prizes at each of these stages. The directorate shall make necessary arrangements to carry out concurrent verification of the entries received.

A grand exhibition of the photographs / snow-art will be organized in the month of March, 2017 at SKICC Srinagar.

IMPORTANT DATES

Last date for the submission of photographs / videos: 5th March, 2017

District level exhibition & Prize distribution for Cluster as well as District level (may vary depending on number of entries): 3rd week of 2017

State level exhibition & Prize distribution: End March, 2017
