Minister for Education, Altaf Bukhari during the annual day celebrations of Government Girls High School, Gandhi Nagar

Jammu: In the midst of a controversy over the alleged discrimination against Jammu and Ladakh regions vis-à-vis recruitment of teachers in government schools, the state government today announced referring about 8,700 Teacher posts to the Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) next month.

Besides, the government is expected to make a big announcement with regard to the education sector in the coming Budget session beginning here from January 2.

This was announced by Minister for Education, Altaf Bukhari while addressing the teachers, students and senior functionaries of the Education Department during the annual day celebrations of Government Girls High School, Gandhi Nagar.

Bukhari said the government would refer 8,700 more teacher vacancies to JKSSB to be advertised next month in addition to the 2,154 posts already referred to the recruitment agency to meet the dearth of staff in government schools.

Reiterating the government’s resolve to meet the targets set in the rolled-out roadmap to fill critical gaps in infrastructure and staff in the education sector, he said the Education Department was expecting some new initiatives to be announced by Finance Minister, Haseeb Drabu in the Budget for this key sector.

However, he took a dig over some political parties for playing politics over certain issues despite not having ensured much progress while remaining in power for several years.

“I have no hesitation to say that the education sector has been continuously ignored over the past 70 years by these people, but despite this, they play politics whenever the department comes up with new reforms and policies,” he added.

Earlier, a cultural show by the students featuring classical and folk music and skits on teacher-student relationship and social issues left the audience spellbound.

Bukhari applauded the performance of students and congratulated them for studying in the best school with a highly qualified team of teachers for educating them.
