JAMMU — Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates on Wednesday emerged victorious for the post of District Development Council (DDC) chairperson and vice-chairperson in Samba district of Jammu division. The party’s candidate has also won the chairperson post in Reasi while an independent candidate secured the post of vice-chairperson in the district.

BJP’s Keshav Dutt Sharma and Bhalwan Singh bagged chairman and vice-chairman respectively in Samba and were later administered oath.

A number of party workers and leaders assembled at the spot and termed victory of BJP in Samba as ‘a landmark one’.

“This all is due to good policies of BJP government in Delhi and people are imposing their democratic faith on BJP in all the elections right from Union government to Panchayats,” said Keshav Dutt Sharma, who was elected as chairman for DDC Samba.

Meanwhile, an interesting contest was witnessed in Reasi district where an independent candidate emerged victorious for the post of vice-chairman after a draw of lots.

Officials said that BJP’s Saraf Singh Naag won the election of chairman for DDC but result of vice-chairman witnessed a tie as BJP candidate and an independent candidate bagged seven votes each.

“The decision was later taken through the draw of lots in which Advocate Sajra Qadir, an independent candidate was declared as vice-chairman for DDC in Reasi district,” said officials.
