PULWAMA — Over the past few weeks, the southern Kashmir’s Rahmoo village in Pulwama district has seen increased presence of rodents like porcupines. As a consequence, theses rodents have caused damage to Almond trees in the area.

In this connection, Chief Horticulture Officer Pulwama, Mukesh Sharma along with HDO Newa team visited the village on Monday.

The officer took stock of the damage caused by porcupines and other wild animals to various fruit bearing trees, particularly Almond trees.

He interacted with the local farmers and discussed various methods to protect Almond trees from these animals.

Meanwhile, a local farmer said that they have been facing such problems earlier also but it seems the rodents have swarmed the area in large numbers this year.

“We hope that no more damage is caused, otherwise we’ll have to look for some alternatives,” he said.
