SRINAGAR — Governor N. N. Vohra today held discussions with Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Minister for Public Works, Floriculture and Gardens & Parks, and B.R. Sharma, Chief Secretary, to settle issues relating to roads that shall connect the Jammu-Udhampur National Highway with the Rs. 300 crore Super Specialty Hospital which has already been established and the College of Nursing which is coming up at Kakryal.

This high-level meeting was convened by the Governor to ensure that the required crucial road connectivity is satisfactorily established well before the Super Specialty Hospital becomes operational at the end of the year.

A satisfactory road network is also required because of the upcoming College of Nursing, adjacent to the Hospital. Side by side, the road network under review would also provide better connectivity to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and for the nearly one crore pilgrims who visit the Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji Shrine every year.

The roads which came up for discussion included the road connecting National Highway-1A with Katra (Domel-Katra), the road from Railway Station Katra to the Super Specialty Hospital (via Panthal), the road connecting National Highway-1A to Panthal via Super Speciality Hospital and the road connecting Domel with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.

After discussions, Altaf Bukhari agreed to a firm time frame by which all four road networks would get completed, well before the scheduled commissioning of the Super Speciality Hospital at Kakryal.

It was decided that Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), shall be responsible for day-to-day monitoring of all four projects and keep the Governor and Rohit Kansal, Commissioner/Secretary, Public Works (R&B) Department regularly informed.

Besides, the Minister and Secretary PW (R&B) and CEO, SMVDSB, the meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary, B.R. Sharma, Dr. S.S. Bloeria and H.L. Maini, both members of SMVDSB, P.K. Tripathi, Principal Secretary to Governor, R.P. Singh, Regional Director, NH-1A, Abdul Hamid Sheikh, Managing Director, JKPCC and Alok Mengi, Chief Engineer, R&B Jammu.
