Gunfight breaks out in Srinagar’s Zoonimar area

SRINAGAR — An encounter has started between militants and government forces in Pozwalpora area of Zoonimar in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

According to the reports reaching here, a joint team of Police and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Pozwalpora.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.

A senior police officer confirmed the exchange of fire between the joint team and the militants. As per the sources, two to three militants are believed to be trapped.

Pertinently, this is second encounter in Srinagar. In last encounter, top Hizb commander Junaid Sahrai was among the three militants who were killed.

Meanwhile, mobile Internet services have been suspended in Srinagar as a precautionary measures.
