Sathergund residents in Pulwama decry drinking water shortage

PULWAMA — Scores of households in Sathergund village in Kakapora Tehsil here in the district are up in arms against Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department over inadequate supply of potable water.

A local delegation said that the village has been facing the shortage persistently for over a decade now, despite time to time representations made to the authorities concerned.

“They (PHE) have not installed any pipeline to alleviate our sufferings for over a decade now,” the delegation members said.

“Our women folk are facing brunt due to the lackadaisical approach of the careless officials,” they said, adding, “Once the winter sets in, the women have to tread miles altogether amid chill to fetch the drinking water.”

A delegation member said, “We have requested the authorities off and on, however a large chunk of populace is still being forced to use contaminated water from nearby rivers and wells.”

Demanding that a new pipeline supply be installed to put an end to the water woes, the delegation members further said that they appeal the Lieutenant Governor alongside district administration concerned to look into the matter at an earliest.
