SRINAGAR — Suspected militants on Thursday shot dead two teachers including the lady Principal inside the premises of an educational institution here in Kashmir capital Srinagar.

The incident occurred at Sangam Idgah area of Srinagar. Both teachers were shot dead when they were present at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School.

The male teacher identified as a Kashmiri Pandit Deepak Chand, who was presently living in Batamaloo area of Srinagar, died on the spot while the lady Principal Satender Kour, a resident of Alochi Bagh Srinagar, died on way to the hospital.

One of the teachers said that the pistol-wielding men came into the school and shot dead two teachers.

On Tuesday, suspected militants killed a Kashmiri Pandit pharmacist Makhan Lal Bindroo and a non-Kashmiri street vendor from Bihar Virendra Prasad in Srinagar, and shot dead another civilian Muhammad Shafi in the northern district of Bandipora.

Top police brass including police chief Dilbagh Singh and IGP Vijay Kumar visited the spot to take stock of the situation.

Singh while talking to reporters said that killing innocent civilians, including teachers, is a move to attack and damage the age-old tradition of communal harmony and brotherhood in Kashmir.

He said there is an attempt from Pakistan backed agencies to create communal tensions and defame the local Muslims of Kashmir. He said culprits will be brought to justice.

The school Principal Satendra Kour was the wife of Jammu Kashmir Bank Executive Manager Ramesh Pal Singh.
