The University has also revealed the tentative examination schedule through this very notification. 2nd Semester (Batch 2018) exam is scheduled to be held in April, 2019, 4th Semester (Batch 2017) exam is slated to be held in June, 2019 and 1st Semester (Batch 2019) will be held in June, 2019 as the notification.

“The University of Kashmir in line with the directive of University Grants Commission introduced semester system in 2015 and then the Choice Base Credit System in 2016 at UG Level. This new scheme has many advantages for the students to offer but has increased examination workload manifold,” the notification reads.

It further read, “The semester system is based on carry on system where promotion to higher class is determined only in 5th semester. There is no provision for backlog examination as used to be in annual system as the students will get chance to reappear in any paper in the subsequent semester examination.”

“The semester system will not yield desired results unless examinations are conducted well in time, otherwise end term examination followed by backlog examination of different semesters will result in an endless vicious examination circle where no course will be completed within the stipulated time as happened in past,” the notice read.

It said, “Prudence suggests that we must learn from the past mistakes and take appropriate decisions in the interest of the students. The present dispensation in the University of Kashmir has taken a slew of measures to stem the rot for which students have to extend full cooperation to make new examination policy of the university a success, otherwise they alone will to have suffer for delay in the examinations and result declaration which will ultimately tell upon their craving for higher academic pursuits as no other university will wait for their declaration of the result beyond their academic schedule.”

“The University has rearranged existing examination pattern at UG level by introducing MCQ based question papers exclusively in even semesters and descriptive question paper with short, medium and long answer type questions in odd semesters,” the notice further read.

It added, “The examination of 2nd Semester – Batch 2018 will be tentatively held in April ending and 4th Semester – Batch 2017 in June 2019 beginning. The examination of 1st Semester – Batch 2019 will be held in June 2019.”

“This is possible only when students devote themselves exclusively to their studies and prepare well in advance for these examinations. They should not wait for the class work to start and exclusively bank upon the class study; instead, they should cultivate the habit of self study. They should not ride on the concession of postponement of examinations, but be prepared for end term examination in trying conditions,” the notification read.

It further read, “They should start preparation for examination right from the day of admission and should make maximum use of e-lectures and e-tutorials available on UGC website, YouTube and other websites. Only then their degrees will be awarded within time and not otherwise.”
