There is no skepticism in the fact that science and technology has revolutionized our world by its inventions and discoveries. It has made our life comfortable, jubilant and entertaining. World is progressing by leaps and bounds because of the benevolences of science. It has provided us gizmos which are very useful in our day to day life.
Among numerous wonders of science, the fusion of smartphones and Internet is ubiquitous in present times. Internet and smartphones have now become a necessity for all age groups as we are progressively moving towards a digital life.
A smartphone connected to an Internet connection is truly a blessing of science as it connects us to the whole world and we remain updated in every facet of life. We remain connected to our friends and relatives. We can perform different activities online comfortably for which we had to step outside our houses sans these smartphones.
Undoubtedly, the combination of Internet and smartphones have made our lives comfy in every aspect and we also have streamlined our lives according to their use and their emplacement in our lives.
Despite being so useful and serviceable, have we ever cudgeled our brains to wonder what these smartphones have snatched from us. On pondering over this question, it would not be wrong to say that these smartphones have unconsciously snatched our real world from us and have made us to land into the world of virtuality.
A smartphone connected to an Internet connection is a good servant but a bad master. Once a person gets addicted to it, he forgets the world of reality and remains stuck to it all day, enjoying social networking, online gaming, online shopping and other such things.
We often see most of the people sitting among their family members or among their friends, chatting to their other friends on social sites. Though physically they remain among their families but most often they remain absent-minded and are lost in the world of social sites – a virtual world.
With each passing day, we are losing our real friends and relatives but there is an increase in our friend list on social sites and the irony added to this fact is that we don’t know most of them in real life.
Now, people don’t have time to spend with their relatives but they remain busy all day in futile discussion on social media with unknown people. They have forgotten the real relationships of their life but are busy in making new relations with people who are thousands of miles away from them and are unknown to them.
We often see some people using smartphones in some important meetings also. Instead of concentrating on the agenda of the meeting, they use smartphones for social networking, online shopping or playing games or secretly watching YouTube while being in the meeting. Though they physically remain present in the meetings but their main immersion remains somewhere else.
No doubt, using social media for interaction and keeping ourselves updated is a good habit but getting addicted to it to the extent of forgetting our real world is absolutely a bad habit.
There are some links and some applications on social media which give an incorrect meaning to our names and wrong prediction about our future, but unfortunately some people among us feed their personal data in such links and enjoy posting such links on their personal account to get likes and comments which gives them classy feelings. But actually such results and predictions are all fantasies and such links are only created for fun but some people among us who aren’t much aware about such things take these results and predictions serious and believe in them as truth. Any wrong result from these link can have a bad impact on their real life and can cause psychological disorders among such people.
The youth folk nowadays remain so immersed in playing online games like PUBG on their smartphones that some even forget to take meals and some people report that their kids even shout during their sleeps to ‘kill the enemies’ and ‘shoot the target’ as these online games have deep imprints on their minds. These games make them forget the actual world and they remain immersed in the virtual world all the time, which has a bad impact on their thinking capability and other daily life activities. All such people like to remain in seclusion and feel irritated by other people. They spend most of their time in isolation in their virtual fantasies which makes them unsocial in their real life.
As it is already mentioned in the lead paragraph that smartphones and Internet can be much useful and applicable in our life but their addiction is much harmful and can lead to destructive results.
Besides above mentioned harmful results of addiction to Internet and smartphones, there are many other courses of this addiction which leads us to forget the real world and makes us to plunge in the world of fantasies which is nothing but merely an illusion. This illusion results in a great loss of both our precious time and energy. Most of us realize this loss in very late hours. But at that time, we can’t escape from this addiction and we are unable to repair the loss.
So before such a stage occurs in our lives, it is better to stay away from such addiction and use our smartphones and Internet service in a judicious way.
