NEW DELHI — Saudi Arabia has startled the Islamic world by banning the Tablighi Jamaat, an Islamist proselytising organisation, calling it one of the gateways of terrorism. This might have enormous repercussions for India.

Because Saudi charities have been the primary source of financing for the movement that began in India to “purify” Islam, the organisation will suffer a gradual death in many areas of the world as a result of the embargo.

Some governments may follow Saudi’s lead, although nations with large Tablighi populations, such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, may find it difficult to do so.

Saudi Arabia’s ministry of Islamic affairs tweeted, “His Excellency the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif Al-Alsheikh directed the mosques’ preachers and mosques that held Friday prayer temporary to allocate next Friday sermon 5/6/ 1443 H to warn against Tablighi & Da’wah group which is called Al-Ahbab.”

The government has instructed mosque preachers to inform the public that Saudi Arabia is prohibited from collaborating with groups such as the Tablighi and Da’wah.
