DSEK kicks off ‘Read Kashmir Library’ programme


Srinagar: Directorate of School Education, Kashmir (DSEK) today started “Read Kashmir Library” programme in the 10 districts of the valley.

The programme is being conducted by Pratham Education Foundation (PEF) in collaboration with Directorate of School Education, Kashmir.

Joint Director (EE), Mr. Mehboob Hussian, on Friday inaugurated the programme at Government Primary School Mirpora Gund Hasi Bhat.

Dr. Parveen Sayeed, National Head, Urdu Programme and Mr. Zishan Ahmad, state coordinator from Pratham were present.

The initiative is intended to enable out of school children and students studying in government and private schools of elementary level to learn things related with reading, writing, listening and speaking through activity based learning.

“The ‘Read Kashmir Library’ programme shall continue till the end of winter vacations for which PEF has engaged 2000 unpaid educational volunteers, who shall deliver their services in 450 village communities. It has been a relentless effort from more than 80 Resource Persons to engage community and mobilize so many youngsters to voluntarily offer their services for children,” the DSEK spokesman adds.
