Pulwama — Teachers, students and traders among many other professionals in south Kashmir’s Pulwama visit ‘Manzimnad’ – an orchard area in Pulwama’s Rahmoo village – for accessing mobile internet which continues to be snapped frequently here.
The area is a place of internet hope whenever the district is stripped off internet services, mainly because of eruption of gunfights between government forces and militants.
Nadeem Nazir, a local youth, said that youth in hundreds visit the area after internet services are snapped in the district. “This place is very close to Budgam district and so we get internet signal here. It is like the last and only hope whenever some encounter breaks out in Pulwama,” the youth said.
More PUBG mobile game lovers visit the place among all the people that flock to Manzimnad. “Although people from all walks of life visit the area but mostly PUBG lovers can be seen glued to their smartphones here,” Irfan Ahmad, a teenager said.
Many people travel for more than 10 kilometers to reach the area so as to have their online presence intact amid the recurrent internet restrictions.
Businessmen and traders can also be found frequenting the place in order to check their payment receipts and other necessary details. They say, “Government is making life difficult for us as coronavirus demands social distancing but the authorities force us to gather at such places for a mere 2G internet connection.”
It is pertinent to mention here that almost every week, internet services are snapped by the authorities in Pulwama and Shopian districts as gunfights break out almost every other day.
