Pahalgam: A trek-cum-cleanliness drive was organized in Pahalgam in an effort to clean the Amarnath Yatra route.

The cleanliness drive was organized by Nayaab Productions in association with SRB Style Statement.

Youth from various areas of Pulwama district were part of the drive. Also, students from Al-Habeeb Private School participated.

“The motive is not just trekking but to clean the environment also,” said Shahid Rashid Bhat who was one of the organizers.

Gulzar Ahmad, a local looking after Betaab Valley park, said, “We can expect more and more tourists if we keep our environment clean here in Pahalgam.”

“The government tries to clean the place off the harmful stuff like polythene, bottles et cetera but certain remnants are always there. So, we tried to clear the remnants for the Pahalgam Municipal Corporation to dispose off the garbage properly,” said another organizer, Syed Mohsin Andrabi.

Anayat Ullah, a Medical Representative by profession, said, “I decided to be a part of this programme because a clean environment is important for generating more and more opportunities of earning livelihood for the local population here.”

The youth collected more than fifteen hundred kilograms of garbage and handed that to Pahalgam Municipal Corporation.

Betaab Valley Park as well as Amarnath Yatra route up to Pissu Top were cleaned off the harmful garbage mostly composed of polythenes and plastic bottles.

On the last day of the programme, the participants were appreciated and awarded certificates during a brief presentation ceremony.
