SRINAGAR — Winter vacation in Kashmir colleges have been extended until February 21 in view of bad weather forecast, the divisional administration said on Sunday.

“In view of the inclement weather forecast, the Divisional administration in Kashmir has ordered deferred reopening of colleges after winter vacations across the division,” said an official handout.

Divisional Commissioner – Baseer Ahmad Khan, according to the handout, said all colleges across the Kashmir division scheduled to reopen tomorrow after winter vacations will now reopen on Thursday February 21.

He said the decision has been taken in view of the inclement weather forecast.

Earlier, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora extended the winter vacations for the students until Tuesday (February 19).

A spokesman of the varsity said the decision was taken following a request by the students and their parents who are either from remote areas or are presently outside the valley and are unable to return in view of inclement weather conditions.

“As such the university shall now reopen on Wednesday (February 20),” he said.
