Srinagar’s Super Specialty Hospital to perform kidney transplant

SRINAGAR — The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday granted a go-ahead for ‘kidney transplantation’ to Super Specialty Hospital Shireen Bagh, an associated hospital of Government Medical College Srinagar.

According to news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC), the Departments of Urology and Nephrology, Super Specialty Hospital Shireen Bagh, Government Medical College Srinagar has been inspected and certificate of registration has been granted for performing the kidney transplantation in the UT of J&K, under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act & Tissues Act 1994 by the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare New Delhi, dated 24 September 2021.

While speaking on the occasion, Principal/Dean, Prof Samia Rashid said that she is very happy to see that the institution got approval for starting Renal Transplant programme.

She congratulated both the departments and their HODs Dr. Syed Sajjad Nazi and Dr. Tajamul Hussain Mir for their hard work in getting it approved, especially Dr. Syed Sajjad Nazir HOD Urology, who in the last four years has been instrumental in getting the department of Urology recognised among the top institutions of the country.

The process of conducting renal transplantation in Super Specialty Hospital Srinagar has started and first kidney transplant is expected to start in November this year.

Establishing another renal transplantation centre in Srinagar would be beneficial to chronic renal disease patients who require kidney transplantation and doesn’t need to wait or travel outside.
