Militants escape after shootout in Kreeri village

BARAMULLA — Militants on Thursday likely managed to escape after a brief shootout in Kalantara Kandi Kreeri village of Baramulla in north Kashmir.

Official sources said that 29 RR, SOG of J&K Police and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation in Kalantara Kandi village following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

After the nine hours long CASO, hiding militants opened fire on joint party which triggered a brief shootout.

Sources said that no firing has been heard from last twenty hours and it seems that the militants managed to escape.

However, Police officials confirmed that they have started searches in the area. “There was no further contact with hiding militants in the area,” they said.

Police officials said that they have suspended the operation for whole night in wake of darkness and bad weather conditions in the area.

They, however, added that the whole area is under cordon, searches are going on. “We can not say anything as of now about whether they are hiding or have managed to escape,” they added.
