J&K bags 7 medals in 19th Junior National Wushu Championship

SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir has bagged seven medals in the 19th Junior National Wushu National Championship which concluded on Monday.

The event witnessed the participation of around 1400 athletes from 32 States and Union Territories.

Sadia Tariq from J&K won the gold medal. Saleem Kumar and Abid Hameed won a silver each, while Sana Basharat Ajmal Yousuf, Bishal Chib and Muhammad Shoaib won the bronze.

Wushu coach of India, Kuldeep Handoo congratulated both the winning players and Wushu Association of Kashmir for their outstanding performance. “It is a proud moment for us,” he said.

The event was held with the support of Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and Wushu Association of India in collaboration with Wushu Association of Haryana.

Sadia said that it was her coaches and trainers who encouraged her to continue the practice. “We rejoined the practice after the Sports Ministry announced the COVID-19 SoPs and guidelines,” she said.

“There is a lot of talent among girls. Many girls want to pursue their career in Martial Arts. However, they need parental support,” she said.
