SRINAGAR — The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has named A.K. Choudhary (IPS) as the new Chairman of the Public Service Commission, a significant move in the administration of the recently reorganized region.

Choudhary, a 1991-batch AGMUT cadre officer, will assume the role until he reaches the age of sixty-two, according to an official order.

The appointment, made under the powers conferred by Section 93 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, and subsequent regulations, signifies a key decision in the governance structure of the Union territory.

“In exercise of powers conferred by Section 93 of the Jammu and Kashmir Re-organization Act, 2019, and S.O. 3937 (E) dated 31st October, 2019, read with Order issued in terms of sub-clause (i) of clause (c) of the Proclamation issued by the President dated 31st October, 2019, the Lieutenant Governor of Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir is pleased to appoint Mr. A.K. Chowdhary, IPS (AGMUT:1991), as Chairman, Public Service Commission for the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” the order stated.

Choudhary’s extensive experience and background in the AGMUT cadre make him a notable choice for the position, indicating a strategic approach to governance and administration in the region.

“He shall hold the position of the Chairman, Public Service Commission, till he attains the age of sixty-two years. His appointment shall take effect from the date he assumes the office,” the order further affirmed.
