Overseas Job Fraud: EOW chargesheets accused who duped youth of lakhs

SRINAGAR — The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet in connection with an alleged overseas job fraud in which a youth was reportedly lured to Cambodia on the promise of lucrative employment but was instead forced into online scamming activities.

The chargesheet has been filed in FIR No. 19/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) before the Court of the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class against Mohd Yaseen Rather, son of Nisar Ahmad Rather, a resident of Kripalpora Payeen, Pattan.

According to the Crime Branch, the investigation was initiated following a complaint alleging that the accused promised the complainant a job as a Computer Operator in Cambodia with a monthly salary of ₹90,000.

Believing the assurance, the complainant allegedly transferred several lakhs of rupees to the accused’s bank account and also incurred substantial expenses on visa processing, travel and other related formalities.

The investigation revealed that after reaching Cambodia, the complainant was allegedly compelled to engage in online scamming activities instead of being provided the promised employment.

The Economic Offences Wing said the investigation substantiated the allegations, following which the chargesheet was presented before the competent court for judicial proceedings.
