PULWAMA — The Flood Control Department has demolished 13 unauthorised ramps along vulnerable stretches of the River Jhelum in Pulwama district as part of an intensified drive against illegal riverbed activities and encroachments.

The action was carried out under the direction of Executive Engineer Farooq Ahmad, with the department targeting unauthorised ramps and other activities considered detrimental to the protection of the Jhelum embankments.

Officials said the enforcement drive covered stretches from Samboora to Patalbagh and from Kakapora to Marvel, where illegal access points and activities along the riverbed were identified.

As part of the crackdown, 13 illegal ramps were demolished, while eight vehicles allegedly involved in unauthorised activities have been recommended for blacklisting, officials said.

The department has intensified inspections along the Jhelum and its protective infrastructure to prevent unauthorised access and activities that could affect riverbanks and embankments.

Officials said further action would be taken against violations detected during the ongoing drive in accordance with applicable rules.

The enforcement measures come amid continued concerns over illegal activities along the Jhelum and the need to protect its embankments from damage.
