SRINAGAR — Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), has been elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), the country’s oldest science academy.
Established in 1930, NASI confers its Fellowship in recognition of significant contributions to scientific research. Prof. Romshoo’s election recognises his sustained work in Earth and environmental sciences.
He will be formally inducted into the Academy during its 96th annual session at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi in December 2026.
Prof. Romshoo has contributed to research in glaciology, hydrology, climate change and remote sensing, with particular emphasis on the impact of climate change on Himalayan glaciers and water resources.
He is also an elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the Indian Society of Remote Sensing and the Indian Society of Geomatics.
Prof. Romshoo is a recipient of the J. C. Bose Fellowship and has received several international, national and state-level awards and honours.
