SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir Government has informed the Legislative Assembly that there is currently no proposal to increase the monthly honorarium of Lumberdars and Chowkidars, whose existing rates were last revised in 2016.
According to a Revenue Department reply in the Assembly, Lumberdars receive a monthly honorarium of ₹1,501, while Chowkidars are paid ₹1,500.
The existing rates were fixed through Government Order No. 59-Rev of 2016 dated April 29, 2016, following Cabinet Decision No. 15/02/2016 dated April 27, 2016.
Before the 2016 revision, the monthly honorarium for Lumberdars was ₹751 and for Chowkidars ₹750.
The government was also asked whether it intended to formulate a comprehensive policy or introduce legislation providing service security, pension or retirement benefits and financial security for the two categories.
The Revenue Department said no such proposal was under consideration at present.
The reply was furnished in response to a question raised in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
