PULWAMA — A man was injured after being mauled by a bear in Nagbal village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday morning, officials said.
The injured man was identified as Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Abdul Rasheed Gujjar, a resident of Nagbal.
According to the available information, Ahmed was attacked after he stepped out of his house in the morning. He was subsequently shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The incident has renewed concern among residents over the movement of wild animals in and around inhabited areas.
Villagers said the presence of wild animals had become a growing concern, particularly for people venturing out during the early morning hours.
They urged the Wildlife Department to intensify surveillance in vulnerable areas and take necessary measures to capture and relocate animals that pose a threat to human settlements.
A Wildlife Department official said a team was dispatched to the area shortly after receiving information about the attack and the presence of the wild animal.
The official appealed to residents to cooperate with the department and advised them to remain cautious and avoid venturing outside unnecessarily.
