PULWAMA — Seven scientists from the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) have been featured in the 2026 edition of the World’s Top 2% Scientists list, marking another increase in the university’s representation in the global research database.
The latest edition was updated on October 7, 2026, using standardised citation indicators based on Scopus data. The database evaluates research impact through a composite indicator that takes into account citations, co-authorship and authorship-related measures across scientific fields and sub-fields.
IUST formally announced the inclusion of its seven scientists on October 8.
The IUST researchers featured in the 2026 edition are Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice-Chancellor of IUST; Dr Basharat Nabi Dar of the Department of Food Technology; Dr Shakeel Ahmad Khanday of the Department of Physics; Dr Mohd Younus Bhat of the Department of Mathematical Sciences; Dr Aamir Hussain Dar of the Department of Food Technology; Dr Muzaffar Ahmad Macha of the Watson-Crick Centre for Molecular Medicine; and Dr Manzoor Ahmad Rather of the Department of Chemistry.
The inclusion spans areas including Earth sciences, food technology, physics, mathematical sciences, molecular medicine and chemistry, reflecting the university’s research activity across multiple disciplines.
The latest recognition continues an upward trend in IUST’s representation. The university’s 2024 announcement featured Prof. Romshoo as its sole scientist in that edition, while its 2025 announcement listed six researchers.
Prof. Romshoo was featured for the sixth consecutive year in the 2025 edition, according to IUST.
The 2026 recognition comes amid IUST’s wider efforts to strengthen research infrastructure, externally funded projects, doctoral research and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Congratulating the researchers, Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo said the recognition was a matter of pride for the university and reflected the sustained efforts of its faculty to advance research and knowledge.
He said IUST was committed to creating an enabling environment for high-quality and impactful research through stronger research infrastructure, interdisciplinary initiatives, externally funded projects and national and international collaborations.
Romshoo also stressed the importance of aligning research priorities with emerging global challenges and societal needs while encouraging faculty and scholars to pursue work with academic rigour and wider relevance.
The World’s Top 2% Scientists database is a bibliometric research dataset rather than a conventional award or institutional ranking. The 2026 edition includes separate career-long and single-year impact measures and is based on Scopus-indexed citation data.
