Ban on high-speed mobile internet extended in J&K

SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Friday decided to continue with the curbs on high-speed mobile internet in the Union Territory till April 15.

In an order issued by the administration, it said that some people, inimical to law and order situation, were using internet to incite and spread fake news even during the COVID-19 outbreak.

“The internet speed restrictions have, while enabling access to essential services and sites not posed any hindrance to COVID-19 control measures or online educational content,” the order said.

Pertinently, all communication channels including mobile internet were banned in the erstwhile State of Jammu & Kashmir on August 05, 2019 as the BJP-led government at the Centre abrogated its special status (Article 370).

Although, the restrictions were eased in a phased manner but high-speed mobile internet continues to be barred, even as the ban on the services enter the eighth month.
