SRINAGAR — A gunfight between militants and government forces happened in Tiken area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama on Friday.

According to the reports reaching here, a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Tiken.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter, officials said.

“Police and security forces are on the job. Further details will be shared as they emerge,” they said.

Sources said that firefight stopped in the area and it could not be immediately ascertained if the militants managed to escape. They said that cordon remained intact while the operation has been suspended due to darkness.
