PULWAMA — A market checking drive was organized by the south Kashmir’s Law Enforcement Department in Pulwama district on Saturday.

During the drive, chemical fertilizers and pesticides were tested while the documents including licenses of the traders and shopkeepers were examined.

The market checking drive has been going on in the district after the local Agriculture Department organized an information and training camp for farmers in Nikas area, recently. In the program, a large number of farmers had participated who raised the issue of substandard fertilizers and pesticides, being sold in the market.

Taking note of the complaint raised by the farmers, the District Development Commissioner Pulwama, Dr Raghav Langer had directed the Horticulture Department and Law Enforcement Department to take action against the traders of substandard chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

The DC Pulwama’s directive is being implemented by the employees of the Department of Enforcement and Horticulture together through the market checking drives.

While talking to the media, Law Enforcement Officer, Gulzar Ahmed said that on the direction of Law Enforcement Directorate and District Development Commissioner Pulwama, “We inspected 28 shops and warehouses dealing in chemical fertilizers and pesticides in Pulwama district. We also checked their requisite documents.”

He added, “We have sent samples of 26 different drugs to the laboratory for testing, which will come in handy.”

He said that the sales of two shopkeepers have been stopped as they did not possess any business documents. “Legal action has been initiated against them,” he further said.
