
SRINAGAR — Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar on Friday said that the militant involved in civilian killing in Srinagar city has been killed in Pulwama encounter. He also informed that the militant who killed police sub-inspector in Khanyar Srinagar was killed in Bemina Srinagar encounter.
Kashmir valley witnessed two encounters on Friday. One broke out in Pulwama while the other raged in Bemina area of Srinagar city.
Earlier, a gunfight raged between joint forces and militants in Wahibugh area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The area where exchange of fire took place is adjacent to Pulwama market. The encounter culminated with the killing of a militant.
A militant was also killed in Bemina encounter. IGP Kashmir in a tweet said that one militant involved in civilian killing in Srinagar city has been neutralized. He identified the slain militant as Shahid Bashir Sheikh.
He said that killed militant has been identified as Shahid Basir Sheikh of Srinagar who was involved in recent killing of a civilian (Muhammad Safi Dar, employee of Power Development Department) on October 2.
IGP further said that an AK-47 rifle was used in his killing. From the encounter spot, an AK rifle along with a magazine and ammunition have been recovered.
About Bemina encounter, IGP said that the killed militant was responsible for the killing of Police Sub-Inspector Arshid Ahmed in Khanyar Srinagar.
