Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Koul is new Director SKIMS

SRINAGAR — J&K Government on Friday appointed Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Koul as Director Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, Srinagar.

The ex-Professor and Head of Department, General Medicine, SKIMS, Koul’s appointment shall take effect from Saturday.

“As approved by the Chairman, Governing Body, SKIMS, Soura, Srinagar (Lieutenant Governor, J&K), Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Koul, ex-Professor and Head of Department, General Medicine, SKIMS, is hereby appointed as Director, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, Srinagar with effect from 01-01-2022,” reads an order, a copy of which lies with GNS.

Dr Koul succeeds Prof. A. G. Ahangar, whose tenure as Director, SKIMS and Ex-Officio Secretary to the Government was extended by six months beyond age of retirement.

In last week of June, the government had extended Ahangar’s tenure beyond the age of his superannuation of 65 years till the end of 2021 but barred him from carrying out procurement and appointments in the tertiary care institute.

Prof. Ahangar was to retire on attaining the age of 65 years on 25 June 2021 but was asked to continue to hold the post till December 31, 2021 in terms of Government Order No. 358 dated 04.05.2021 issued by H&ME Department.

“It is further ordered that during this period, Prof. A. G. Ahangar will not look after the issues related to procurement and appointments in the institute, which shall be looked after by a committee to be constituted by the Government,” the order had added.
