As people, mostly youth, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district continue to flock Internet cafes and Tehsil offices to apply for Domicile Certificates, a ‘hidden fee’ is being charged from the applicants.

Jammu and Kashmir Shiv Sena chief Manish Sahani on Tuesday accused the Central government of failing to deliver post the abrogation of Article 370, stating that the situation in Kashmir is not concealed from anyone.

Over 6,600 applicants have got the document that allows them to buy property and apply for jobs in Jammu and Kashmir since the Union Territory administration started issuing domicile certificates to non-locals, reports said.

Prominent Kashmir born businessman Mubeen Shah has reportedly been booked for sedition.

The process of distribution of Domicile Certificates under the new Domicile law was kick-started here today with the distribution of more than 50 Domicile Certificates by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma in a special camp organised for the purpose.

A senior Jammu and Kashmir cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from Bihar, is among the nearly 25,000 people who have been granted a domicile certificate.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Monday backed the Kashmiri people’s demand for self-determination and rejected the Indian government’s decision to scrap the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, reported Hindustan Times.

Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu Monday launched e-Application-cum-issuance of Domicile Certificate, developed by Jammu and Kashmir e-Governance Agency (JaKeGA), here at the Raj Bhavan.
