GANDERBAL — Two non-local labourers, who were injured after being attacked by militants, succumbed in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

According to the local police, militants had opened fire on them in Gagangeer area of Kangan in central Kashmir on Sunday evening.

A top police officer said that militants targeted the labourers who were working on a tunnel project for the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO). In the attack, five labourers were injured. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, two victims succumbed to their injuries.

It is pertinent to mention here that security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to track down the assailants.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, while taking to micro-blogging platform X, wrote, “Very sad news of a dastardly & cowardly attack on non-local labourers at Gagangir in Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. 2 have been killed & 2-3 more have been injured in this militant attack. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people & send my condolences to their loved ones”.

The incident comes two days after a bullet-riddled body of a non-local man was found in Waduna area of Zainapora in Shopian district.
