I am a student in Kashmir, and I care deeply about education. That is exactly why I am sounding this alarm: our schools are turning from supportive spaces into pressure cookers.
A Weight Students Can’t Put Down
In recent years, the pressure on students has grown heavier than ever. Peer comparison, social media and relentless competition leave many of us overwhelmed. Anxiety and depression are rising among young people, and too many students are losing their sense of self along the way.
Instead of being guided to find their strengths, many are caught in a rat race that rewards ranking over understanding. It leaves little room for creativity or individuality.
Not Against Education, For It
Let me be clear: I am not against education. I believe in its power. But schools must be places where students are supported, not merely pushed to perform.
Schools, teachers and parents can restore that balance. It starts with recognising that a student’s worth is not a rank or a score. When we make room for students to thrive without losing themselves, we get better learners and healthier young people.
