Man succumbs as gunmen attack Thar vehicle in Jewal Chowk Jammu

JAMMU — A firing incident was reported on Tuesday in Jewel Chowk area of Jammu, leaving a man critically injured who later succumbed to his injuries.

Sources said that a few rounds of fire were reported in the Jewel Chowk area of Jammu, leaving one person critically injured.

As per the sources, the victim was driving a Thar vehicle (JK21G-0770) when suddenly gunmen attacked him by brazenly firing at his vehicle. In the attack, the driver sustained critical bullet wounds. The injured was immediately shifted to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim was identified as 37-year-old Sumit Jandial, son of Om Parkash, a resident of Vijaypur, Samba.

Meanwhile, the local police have reached the spot and initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident. Also, a case in this regard has been registered at Police Station Nowabad.

While divulging more details about the incident, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Jammu Anand Jain told reporters that the incident was due to gang rivalry.

He said the Gataru gang of Vijaypur, Samba attacked a member of its rival group and there was no militant angle in the incident.
