SRINAGAR — Light rain lashed parts of Kashmir on Saturday, while higher reaches, including Gulmarg, received fresh light snowfall as the Meteorological Centre Srinagar forecast another spell of unsettled weather across Jammu and Kashmir next week.

The weather is expected to remain generally dry on Sunday and Monday, October 11 and 12, before conditions turn cloudy with the possibility of light rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds at many places on October 13 and 14.

Light snowfall is also likely over higher reaches during the wet spell, according to the latest forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre Srinagar.

The weather department has indicated that October 15 may remain generally dry, although brief spells of light rain could occur at a few places. Generally dry conditions are expected to prevail from October 17 to 23.

The forecast follows fresh precipitation in parts of Kashmir on Saturday, when higher reaches, including Gulmarg, witnessed light snowfall.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre has advised farmers to continue harvesting operations and ensure the safe storage of harvested apples and paddy in view of the possibility of adverse weather.

The department has also warned of thunderstorms and gusty winds during the forecast period, particularly on October 13 and 14.

Farmers have been urged to take precautions to protect harvested produce as the apple and paddy harvesting seasons continue across the Valley.
