NEW DELHI — In a major boost for Indian car buyers ahead of the festive season, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has released its tentative price list for September 2025, reflecting significant reductions following the GST Council’s landmark decision to slash GST rates on small cars from 28% to 18% and abolish the compensation cess on vehicles.
This move is expected to make entry-level and mid-size cars more affordable, with price drops ranging from 8.5% to 9% on models like the Alto K10 and Wagon R, as hinted by Maruti Suzuki Chairman R.C. Bhargava.
The changes, effective from September 22, 2025, are projected to revive demand in the small car segment, which has been under pressure due to rising costs and shifting preferences toward SUVs.
The revised ex-showroom prices incorporate the new GST structure, eliminating the cess that previously added up to 22% on certain vehicles. While on-road prices will vary by state due to differences in road tax (RTO) and insurance, Maruti’s official list provides a detailed break-up including tentative TCS (1% of ex-showroom), 4-year comprehensive insurance (CP), FASTag charges, RTO estimates, booking benefits, and net payable amounts. All prices are ex-showroom unless specified, and the full on-road calculation typically adds 10-15% to the ex-showroom figure, depending on the location.
