“I HAVE SLEPT IN DUTY ROOMS IN SO MANY NIGHTS, SOMETIMES LOCKED, FREQUENTLY UNLOCKED. I HAVE SLEPT ON FLOORS OF CORRIDORS DURING NIGHTS, CONSIDERING HOSPITAL THE SAFEST PLACE. I HAVE WALKED THROUGH FORSAKEN WALKWAYS AND OBSCURE CORRIDORS AT NIGHT…..BUT ALAS! NOT NOW….”
Gandhiji has quoted that real independence will be when a girl will be able to walk on roads at night, but I am saying real independence will be when a girl can leave her house (CHAR DEEWARI) and return safely.
No matter daylight or dusky night, no matter deserted or busy roads, a daughter, wife, sister, or even a mother needs security. We have been focusing on women empowerment for decades, but we forget to talk about raising a male child. There are two things: either raise a girl child or raise your son well.
Hospital is the next home for medical professionals, and unfortunately this is turning into a dangerous setting for the same.
Imagine you being a terminally ill patient, seeking medical assistance at night; the one in a white coat leaving her family, comfortable home settings, devoting herself to care for you, and she is, in turn, being treated so badly. She is being sexually abused and killed so mercilessly.
I have attended so many seminars and debates in which a highlight was that ‘DRESSUP’ of a female can be the cause of rape, but I am asking you, did that white coat trigger you to go for such an evil act?
OH MAN! BE A MAN
Let me live, let me be liberal, let me be there for you to treat your ailments and cure your diseases. Let me be proud to be a GIRL and not regret not being a boy. I have my own dignity; I have my own existence and identity. Why would I feel ashamed of being a girl?
Let me feel proud to be the daughter of a real independent nation. Being a healthcare professional, my family is having second thoughts right now about continuing my profession or quitting my job. It is very unfortunate.
Be one, join your hands, come forward with the common thought to ensure the safety of a girl and hang such culprits until they breathe their last.
“Raise the male child; thereby let me live”.
