KISHTWAR — Around 10 residential houses and several cowsheds were gutted in a major fire that broke out during the night in Mungli village of the remote Warwan area of Kishtwar district, officials said on Wednesday.
The blaze erupted around midnight and rapidly spread through the village, engulfing several residential structures and adjoining livestock shelters.
Initial reports put the number of residential houses gutted at between eight and 10. However, no casualties have been reported so far.
Local residents joined efforts to contain the fire as it spread through the settlement. The exact cause of the blaze was not immediately known.
Officials were assessing the extent of the damage, including losses to residential property and livestock-related structures.
The fire has also pointed to concerns over emergency-response infrastructure in the remote Warwan region, where limited firefighting facilities can make it difficult to respond quickly to major fire incidents.
