Auqib Nabi makes ODI debut, becomes third J&K cricketer to play for India

SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Auqib Nabi made his international debut for India after being named in the playing XI for the second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati on Wednesday.

The Baramulla-born pacer became the third cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to represent India at the international level, after Parvez Rasool and Umran Malik.

Nabi, popularly known as the “Baramulla Express”, earned his India call-up after a strong run of performances in domestic cricket. He was also part of a successful Jammu and Kashmir Ranji Trophy campaign and had recently featured in county cricket.

The 28-year-old’s selection for the second ODI marked another milestone in his career and placed him among the small group of cricketers from J&K to have reached the Indian international side.

Nabi was handed his India debut cap ahead of the match, with the BCCI announcing his inclusion in the playing XI.

His selection also meant that Nabi would miss Jammu and Kashmir’s Irani Cup clash against Rest of India at the Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar, scheduled to begin on Thursday, according to reports.

Nabi’s rise to the international level comes after a highly productive period in domestic cricket. He was one of J&K’s leading performers in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy campaign, taking 60 wickets in 10 matches and earning Player of the Series recognition.

His India debut marks another notable milestone for Jammu and Kashmir cricket, following the international appearances of Rasool and Malik.
