BUDGAM — Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Friday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of spreading misinformation and described allegations of vote theft as an attack on democratic institutions.

Speaking to reporters in Budgam, Choudhary said the National Conference-led government was working to fulfil its commitments despite what he described as limitations on its powers.

“The vote theft issue is an attack on democracy,” Choudhary said, alleging that the BJP’s political approach was centred on spreading falsehoods.

He also claimed that people across the country were taking to the streets in opposition to the party.

The deputy chief minister said his government was accountable to the public and remained committed to fulfilling the promises made to people despite the constraints under which it was operating.

Choudhary further said people were aware of the claims and statements made by BJP leaders. He urged the party’s leadership to respond to allegations concerning voting irregularities, arguing that those making political statements should also address questions raised about the electoral process.
