Army soldier shoots himself dead in Awantipora

SRINAGAR — An Army soldier allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself dead with his service weapon at Victor Force camp in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, sources said on Monday.

They said that around 1550 hours on Monday, the personnel identified as Mohit Kumar of D Coy of C Gund of 34 RR, presently attached with Victor Force at Awantipora, committed suicide by using his personal weapon.

The reason behind the suicide was not known immediately. “No suicide note or any other document was found from the spot,” sources told news agency Kashmir Dot Com.

Pertinently, over the last one year, incidents of suicides and fratricide have reportedly been rising among the men in uniform deployed in Kashmir and the top brass have taken measures to address the issue.
