Petrol, diesel prices to reduce as Centre cuts excise duty

NEW DELHI — The government has agreed to decrease the Central excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and on diesel by Rs 6 per litre, according to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

According to the Finance Minister’s tweet, this will lower the price of fuel by Rs 9.5 a litre and diesel by Rs 7.

“I wish to exhort all state governments, especially the states where reduction wasn’t done during the last round (November 2021), to also implement a similar cut and give relief to the common man,” added Sitharaman in another tweet.

It is in place to mention here that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central government has come under sharp criticism from the Opposition for rising inflation in the country.
