KUPWARA — At least 55 teachers have been suspended for unauthorized absence from their duties across northern Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said.

An official said that the absence of teachers was monitored till Thursday and a collective suspension of all 55 teachers was issued.

The official said that many teachers from different zones across the district including Handwara were found absent from Monday; therefore all those found absent since then have been suspended.

He said that during inspections by Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Tangdhar Dr Bilal Ahmad at different educational institutions, it was learnt that about 30 teachers were absent from their duties.

The report in this regard was later submitted before the Chief Educational Officer (CEO) Kupwara for further course of action.

Meanwhile, around 25 teachers across Kupwara and Handwara were also found absent from their duties, the official said.

The official said that taking cognizance, a suspension order for all 55 teachers was issued on Thursday.
