SRINAGAR — The All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) has called off the strike by MBBS and BDS interns across Jammu and Kashmir following the government’s decision to enhance their monthly stipend from ₹12,300 to ₹25,000.
The revised stipend, which also covers Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), will take effect retrospectively from October 1, 2026, under a formal government order issued by the Health and Medical Education Department.
AIMSA expressed gratitude to political leaders, bureaucrats and others who supported the interns during their agitation for an increase in the monthly stipend.
The association described the decision as a collective achievement and credited the interns for raising their voices and remaining united throughout the protest.
The strike centred on the demand for a substantial increase in the monthly stipend paid to medical interns in the Union Territory.
With AIMSA announcing the withdrawal of the agitation and the government formalising the stipend increase, the protest over the issue has come to an end.
