Class 10th exam commences in Jammu & Kashmir

SRINAGAR — Over a lac students from Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday appeared in Class 10th annual examination conducted by J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) with COVID-19 safety measures in place.

Officials said that examinations are the first major school-related activity being conducted in valley since COVID-19 pandemic broke out in March this year.

“Around 1,06,465 students comprising 74,465 from Kashmir region while 32,000 from Jammu Winter zones will appear in the examination being held at 1,145 centers,” officials said.

They added the examination centers have been almost doubled this year to ensure adherence to social distancing norms amid COVID-19 pandemic. “In valley, 814 exam centers have been established while in Jammu, there are 331 centers for smooth conduct of examination,” officials said.

They further said that in order to keep the pandemic away, the authorities have put in place multiple preventive measures including social distancing norms and use of masks and hand sanitizers.

Earlier authorities fumigated all examination centers across J&K in order to minimize the risk of infection. The Government of J&K had also announced 40 percent relaxation in syllabus for the annual examination as all educational institutions are shut since March this year.
