IUST's DJMC organizes program on 'Careers in Media'

PULWAMA — The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication (DJMC) at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) hosted a special guest lecture today focusing on “Careers for Media Students in the Government Sector: Indian Information Service (IIS).” This event was part of the University-Industry Connect initiative.

Keynote speaker Mr Ishfaq Ahmad Shah (IIS), News Editor at Akash Vani, Srinagar, shared valuable insights during the session, which was organized in collaboration with the Industry Connect vertical under the Office of the Dean Outreach at IUST.

Mr Shah provided students with a comprehensive overview of the IIS exams, drawing from his personal journey in the prestigious service. He encouraged students to consider pursuing careers in the Indian Information Service, emphasizing its importance in shaping the nation’s media landscape.

Dr Mujeeb Liyakat, Head of DJMC, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the vast array of career opportunities available to mass communication students. Dr Monisa Qadiri, Departmental Coordinator of Industry Connect and Senior Assistant Professor at DJMC, conducted the proceedings.

Also present at the event were Dr Aamir Hussain, IUST Industry Connect Coordinator, along with faculty members Dr Heeba Din and Dr Arif Nadaf from DJMC, and Zahoor Ahmad, Technical Assistant.

The lecture aimed to provide students with valuable insights into potential career paths within the government sector for those pursuing studies in media and journalism.
