SRINAGAR — The government on Thursday said that the School Education Department shall practice open-air community classes besides the online mode of education.

Principal Secretary to the Government for School Education Department, B K Singh in an exclusive conversation said that the community classes were more effective and the Department should practice the same besides online and other modes of teaching.

Singh said that the community classes are more effective for primary and upper primary students as they will have a physical interaction and will have less risks of getting infected as well.

He also said that open-air community classes shall be held wherever possible but the virtual classes and other modes of teachings shall also not be neglected and must be practiced regularly as per the schedule.

Stating the status of community classes, Singh said that the Department was conducting community classes mostly in remote areas of north Kashmir’s Kupwara, Baramulla and Bandipora district and some areas of other districts of Kashmir division too but are trying to adopt the same in other districts of both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.

Earlier this week, the School Education Department has ordered the concerned school authorities of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district to start open-air classes for the unreached students.

The Department has said that besides the open-air classes, virtual classes shall also be conducted.

“Open-air classes shall be a parallel hybrid learning exercise to supplement the existing Learning Management System (LMS) and virtual teaching platforms and in no way shall replace online mode of teaching,” it reads.
