PULWAMA — Scores of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers on Monday held a protest demonstration in Rajpora area and Pulwama town in the southern Kashmir district over inadequate salary and lack of COVID-19 related safety measures including PPE Kits.

The aggrieved ASHA workers assembled in an open space at Rajpora area and later outside CMO Office in Pulwama to stage protests against higher authorities for failing to provide them with COVID-19 safety measures including PPE kits.

“We have been protesting for the last many days to demand hike in monthly honorariums and COVID-19 related safety measures but no is paying any attention to our genuine demands,” a protesting ASHA worker Misra said.

Another worker, Rehana, said that they are not even provided the basic safety kit like face masks and sanitizers. “We have to literally beg for the safety kit whenever we have to visit a Covid positive patient. The authorities have completely neglected us amidst the pandemic,” she says.

They alleged the government has completely neglected them even though they are at the forefront to fight the COVID-19 pandemic like other frontline Covid warriors.

They said that they are asked to meet COVID-19 positive patients and most of the contact tracing is being done by them, however, there are no adequate safety equipment available for them.
