SHOPIAN — For the first time, a laparoscopic enucleation of a hydatid cyst of the liver was performed at District Hospital Shopian.

A doctor posted at the hospital told the news agency KNO that a 45-year-old hypertensive female patient was radiologically diagnosed with a huge hydatid cyst of the right lobe of the liver and was operated on successfully.

“The surgery ‘laparoscopic en-nucleation of hydatid cyst of liver’ was performed under the meticulous expertise of laparoscopic surgeon Dr. Seth Mujtaba and the anesthesia team comprising of Dr. Ajaz Wani and Dr. Aatif Nabi Shah,” he said.

Laparoscopic hydatid cyst surgery is a procedure that is usually performed at tertiary care centers in view of the surgical expertise needed and high anesthetic risk (in view of potential anaphylaxis).
